SMPS Harapan Prestasi – Class VIII Community Immersion Program
June 2–5, 2025 | Dukuh Segajih, Desa Hargotirto, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta
From June 2 to 5, 2025, Grade VIII students of SMPS Harapan Prestasi took part in a meaningful and life-changing community immersion program — Live In 2025 — held in collaboration with SMP Bellarminus Menteng at Dukuh Segajih, Desa Hargotirto, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta.
The program provided students with the opportunity to experience real-life situations outside the classroom, aiming to nurture independence, empathy, gratitude, and social awareness. Staying with local host families, students immersed themselves in village life — learning directly from the community through various hands-on cultural, artistic, and culinary activities.
Program Highlights:
Over four days, students participated in a wide range of enriching activities, including:
- Batik Making & Traditional Culinary Classes
Students explored Indonesian heritage by learning how to make batik and cook nasi tiplek — a local dish — as well as processing gula semut and gula Jawa. - Local Arts & Crafts
They learned the art of janur (coconut leaf weaving), traditional gamelan music, and regional dances unique to the Segajih community. - Daily Life with Host Families
Students helped prepare meals, cleaned, and joined in evening gatherings with their foster parents — reinforcing empathy, respect, and family values. - Fun & Nature-based Learning
Outbound games, river trekking, and village exploration fostered teamwork, resilience, and a love of nature. - Campfire Night & Cultural Performances
The closing night featured a heartfelt bonfire and talent showcase, celebrating students’ creativity and unity with their host families.
Participants:
This year’s Live In was joined by 20 students and 3 staff members, including Principal Mr. Gunawan, M.Pd, and teachers Ms. Fidelis Sinar Rahayu and Ms. Carolina Omega Putri. The school worked closely with local guides and community leaders to ensure a safe and valuable learning experience.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
The Live In program reflects the school’s mission to build morally grounded, socially responsible, and independent individuals through contextual learning. It also aims to deepen students’ gratitude for life’s blessings and their appreciation for Indonesia’s rich culture and diversity.
The entire event was well-organized, with full support from local authorities, parent permissions, and clear safety protocols. SMPS Harapan Prestasi is proud of its students’ maturity and enthusiasm during this journey of growth.
A Message of Gratitude:
“We thank all parents, the Segajih community, and all supporting parties who made this Live In program possible. May this experience stay in our students’ hearts as they continue growing into thoughtful, resilient, and compassionate individuals.”
