Charity Day 2025: Sharing Kindness with YKAKI

On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, SDS Harapan Prestasi held a meaningful social event called Charity Day as part of the school’s effort to promote character values such as gratitude and care for others. This event was held at Yayasan Kasih Anak Kanker Indonesia (YKAKI) in Central Jakarta, and carried the theme “Be Grateful.” Through this program, the school encouraged students and teachers to express their gratitude by sharing with children in need, especially those living with cancer.

A group of 40 students and 4 teachers (Ms. Juli, Ms. Cutri, Ms. Aster, and Mr. Gunawan) represented the school in visiting YKAKI. Donations, including snacks, daily necessities, and a speaker, were collected in advance by students through their homeroom teachers, based on YKAKI’s needs. Upon arrival, the group was warmly welcomed by the children and staff at YKAKI. The visit began with an opening prayer and remarks from the school principal. The students also engaged in a short Q&A session with the children, followed by a touching performance from Grade 6 students, who sang “When You Believe” to bring encouragement and joy to their new friends.

The children at YKAKI listened attentively during a short sharing session about cancer, and both groups of students interacted with kindness and empathy throughout the visit. The program concluded with the handover of donations, group photos, and a heartfelt goodbye. Although the visit lasted slightly longer than planned due to an extended sharing session from a YKAKI representative, the change in schedule allowed for a more meaningful experience.

The Charity Day event was a success, running smoothly and in line with its intended purpose. Students showed genuine empathy and appreciation, and the experience left a lasting impact on everyone involved. SDS Harapan Prestasi hopes to continue holding similar programs in the future, possibly returning to YKAKI or visiting other foundations focused on supporting children’s health.
