Honouring Heroes: SDS Harapan Prestasi Celebrates Heroes’ Day

Jakarta, November 10, 2025 — SDS Harapan Prestasi commemorated Heroes’ Day with a meaningful flag ceremony and class activities that reminded students of the spirit of sacrifice and national pride embodied by Indonesia’s heroes. The school observed the national theme “Pahlawanku Teladanku, Terus Bergerak, Melanjutkan Perjuangan”, which calls on everyone to both remember heroic deeds and to continue those efforts through concrete actions in daily life. The program began with a formal flag-raising ceremony held on the school field. All students from Grades 1–6 and SMP, together with teachers and staff, participated in the ceremony which featured the national anthem, a moment of silence, and a short historical presentation about the meaning of Heroes’ Day. Homeroom teachers then led students back to their classrooms for follow-up activities that connected the ceremony’s message to practical expressions of care and responsibility. In classrooms, students learned about the values of courage, honesty, hard work, and love for the nation—values highlighted in the principal’s speech delivered during the ceremony. Following the presentation, each student created a thank-you card to express appreciation to the school’s janitorial and security teams and to their families; this activity aimed to cultivate gratitude and respect for everyday service. While the program ran smoothly overall, the committee noted that time for making cards was tight and recommended better timing in future schedules to allow more creative work. Teachers and event organizers emphasized that being a modern-day hero does not require grand gestures; it can be shown every day by overcoming laziness, persisting despite fear of failure, helping others, and contributing positively to the school community. The school’s leadership encouraged students to carry the spirit of Heroes’ Day into their studies and actions—striving for excellence, showing kindness, and working together for the common good. The event was planned and executed by a dedicated committee with Mr. Gunawan, M.Pd. as Head of School; Ms. Sherly Wokas, S.Pd. as the person in charge; and Ms. Nur Inayah, S.Pd. as the committee chair, supported by homeroom teachers and staff. Documentation of the day, including photos and a short report, has been filed in the school’s activity records. Organizers concluded that the commemoration successfully strengthened students’ sense of national identity and recommended continued activities that combine ceremony, learning, and creative expression.
